In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Trinity UCC will celebrate his life, work, and legacy with several events during the month of January.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day/Restoration Sunday for Returning Citizens
Sunday, January 14, 2018, 7:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Worship Services
During our 7:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship services, we welcome returning citizens into the beloved community of Trinity United Church of Christ. Following the 11:00 a.m. worship service, returning citizens are encouraged to stop by the Chicago Area Fair Housing Alliance table, a non-profit consortium of fair housing and advocacy organizations, for advice on how to take on challenges to housing access.
2018 King Day Commemoration and Public Meeting

During this public accountability forum, hosted by Trinity United Church of Christ and S.O.U.L., public officials will answer questions concerning issues that affect our communities, including: criminal justice reform, voter registration, and economic equity.
End of Cash Bail Letter Writing Campaign

During all worship services, the congregation will be asked to sign letters advocating for the end of money bail in Cook County, and state-wide.

Voter Registration Sunday/“18In18”

Attention teens who will turn 18 this year – It’s time to register to vote in time for the 2018 midterm elections and the 2020 presidential election. Voter registration is open to all eligible voters. Two forms of ID required, one must show your current address.
We Got Next: Equipping a New Generation of Servant Leaders

This is a teach-in for young adults ages 18-29, providing resources on how to run for public office and how to develop a progressive agenda that represents the interests of young adults.
Nonviolent Direct Action Training
Saturday, January 27, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. | Fellowship Hall
This training will prepare activists to engage systems of power using the philosophy and methods of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, and Diane Nash. The training will be conducted by Min. Devon Crawford. For social media, use the hashtag, #JusticeJanuary.
Mobilization Sunday
Sunday, January 28th, 2018
Mobilization Sunday will recognize activism and nonviolent direct action as “civic sacraments.” Those who participated in the nonviolent direct action training will be invited to participate in an anointing ceremony during the 11:00 a.m. worship service.
